Mts. KILIMANJARO AND MERU

Marangu Route
This is the easiest of the Routes, less scenic but very popular.
Accommodation: Tents & Huts
Standard Duration: 5 Days, An extra day for acclimatization at Horombo hut is recommended.

Machame Route
The most scenic route up the mountain.
Accommodation: Tents & Huts
Standard Duration: 6 days Acclimatization is recommended at Shira or Karanga valley. This is a much quicker route as opposed to Marangu and involves a rather gradual ascent unlike that on Umbwe route

Umbwe Route
This is a relatively short steep and scenic route which is not an easy ascent and its direct route to Uhuru Peak.
Accommodation: Tents
Standard Duration: 5 days. Acclimatization is recommended as altitude here gaining very quick. It is suitable route for more experienced trekkers.

Rongai Route
The shortest and one of the toughest routes.
Accommodation: Tents
Standard Duration: 4 - 5 days walking is quite strenuous

Shira Route
The advantage able challenging and scenic route Kilimanjaro 4X4 wheel drive vehicle can be used almost to Shira hut during the dry season.
Accommodation: Tents
Duration: 6 days to 7 days. An extra day for acclimatization at Shira hut.

Mt. Meru Trekking (4566m)
Trekking begins from Momella gate, crossing the Ngarenanyuki river and Miriakamba. the summit is reached by a narrow, barren ridge which provides stunning views of the Ash Cone lying several thousand feet below in the crater.

Standard Duration: 3 - 4 days walking is quite strenuous

Zanzibar

Zanzibar is located about 35 kilometers off the East Coast of Tanzania. It comprises the 1,464 square kilometers, of Unguja (also known as Zanzibar) and the island of Pemba (868 - square kilometers), which is located about 50 kilometers north of Unguja and famed for its deep-sea fishing.

Pemba

Pemba, Arabs knew Pemba Island as the "Green Island", named after the lush vegetation of the coast. From a far, the Island resembles a floating forest. Archeological sites of great interest have been unearthed dating from the ninth to the 15th Century.

Mountain Climbing

Kilimanjaro is a giant stratovolcano reaching an elevation of 19,335.6 ft. (5,895 m). Other names for this volcano are: Kilima Dscharo Oldoinyo Oibor (white mountain in Masai), and Kilima Njaro meaning shining mountain in Swahili. This volcano's highest and youngest cone is named Kibo.

Shira to the west and Mawenzi in the east are older cones that make up Kilimanjaro. Kibo has not been active in recent times, but steam and sulfur are still emitted. At the top of Kibo's summit is a 1 1/2 mile (2 1/4 Km) wide crater.
