Arusha National Park
has an area of 137sq. kms. The park described as a "little
gem", consists of three spectacular features - the
Momella Lakes, Meru Crater, and the Ngurdoto Crater.
Altitudes range from
1,525 m. above sea level at Momella to nearly 4,575 m. at
the summit of Mount Meru. On clear days magnificent views
of Mount Kilimanjaro and
Mount Meru can be seen from almost any part
of the park.
The park is famous
for its profuse bird life both migrant and resident and
the handsome black and white colobus monkeys and blue monkeys
which inhabit the lush green forests of ancient cedar and
podocarpus. Walking Safari
is possible in the Park.
Among the many other
animals commonly seen in the park are baboons, elephants,
giraffes, buffalos, waterbucks and other antelopes.
Best time:
Whole year but in April and May, a 4 wheel drive is necessary.
How to get
there: From Arusha an easy 30 minute drive. Approximately
40 kms from Kilimanjaro International Airport. The park
is on the outskirts of the Arusha town.
